125702Photo #125702Why is there a 40mph dual carriageway through the Common? Pointless as it narrows to 1 lane each way anyway at the end. Narrow the road to 1 lane each way and cover the underpass with more green space above!Track:

42250Photo #42250WANDSWORTH ONE-WAY SYSTEM. Bad enough coming from Clapham if you're cycling on towards Putney, but lethal and a no go zone for cyclists coming from Putney and going on towards Clapham. Attempting to cycle along Armoury Way is suicidal - when there are about four lanes of very fast moving vehicles. If you want to turn right at the end of it (if you're going to Brixton or Clapham) then you basically can't do it unless there are no cars about. This is a pretty rare occurance where this system is concerned (perhaps late evening after 10pm...but even then it can be fairly busy). It needs a total rethink and to be designed for cyclists aswell as cars, as I certainly won't attempt to cycle on it if I'm going towards Clapham way...preferring to walk with my bike through the middle of Wandsworth High Street (as this is one way) - this is very inconvenient and can up to 10 minutes to your journey. I think this is a major one way system south of the river as many cars use it when coming from Putney and going towards Clapham, Brixton and beyond. Seriously dangerous for anyone on two wheels.Dutch-style cycleway:

39733Photo #39733Wandsworth gyratory; It's lethal for cycling.

One-way system should be abolished, and replaced with calmer, Dutch-style infrastructure, more suitable for cycling.

This would also have the beneficial effect of making the area as a whole more human-friendly, and less of a race-track for HGVs.

40188Photo #40188Wandsworth Gyratory is a nightmare for any cycle traffic doing anythig other than a left turn. Particular improvement could be lmade by allowing cycles heading South over Wandsworth Bridge to exit right onto Smugglers Way before having to enter into the roundabout. The many new homes being built around Pleasant point would also be served by such a development: Smugglers way lending itself ideally as a cycle and pedestrian route which avoids the Gyratory.Dutch-style cycleway:

41478Photo #41478Wandsworth gyratory - it is particularly bike unfriendly and attempting to use the mix of roads and cycle lanes on the pavement is confusing and at times dangerous. The layout is unclear and I have been hit by cars twice in 2012 as well as been intimidated by motorists (horns blaring, revving at lights, cutting up when 'turning right') making this a particularly unsafe junction.Dutch-style cycleway:
Problem
dutchcycleways
39736Photo #39736Wandsworth council have been trying to use section 106 funding to remove the gyratory for years. A "Go Dutch" makeover would assist in the re-generation and the section 106 funds could help support further local urban realm improvements.Dutch-style cycleway:

41786Photo #41786Turning right onto Elspeth Road from Lavender Hill can be particularly nerve-wracking. If you do not have a car behind you turning right also (protecting you) then you can often have two lanes of traffic either side of you going in opposite directions (with little safe space) whilst you wait to turn right. Despite being opposite a police station I have taken to jumping the red lights when it is 'pedestrian only' (very carefully) to ensure my safety.Dutch-style cycleway:
